The role of the nurse in medical malpractice litigation has experienced a paradigm shift in the last several years.  Specifically, litigation has advanced from naming individual nurses only when an obvious mistake occurred for failure to appropriately carry out a physician’s order, to recognizing the nurse as a clinician responsible for utilizing professional judgment when rendering patient care.  This monograph aims to help nurses understand evolving legal risks, responsibilities, and liabilities involved with the practice of nursing in healthcare organizations.
